In a bold statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israel of pursuing an expansionist agenda, claiming that it seeks to weaken its neighboring countries militarily, technologically, economically, and socially. Araghchi's remarks, made during a conference in Doha, Qatar, highlight a controversial perspective on regional dynamics.
"This project ensures Israel's permanent dominance," Araghchi asserted, referring to what he believes is Israel's strategic objective. He went on to explain that Israel aims to maintain an unchecked military arsenal, including weapons of mass destruction, while simultaneously pressuring other nations to disarm.
To support his argument, Araghchi pointed to the sanctions imposed on Iran for its missile and nuclear programs, suggesting that these measures are not driven by security concerns but rather by a desire to uphold Israel's military superiority.
"It's a permanent inequality," he emphasized, reiterating his belief that Israel seeks to maintain an advantageous position.
However, Araghchi also expressed optimism about ongoing negotiations with the United States in Oman, describing them as a "good start" towards building trust. He clarified that these talks would solely focus on the nuclear issue, with Iran willing to reach an agreement on enrichment levels based on its needs.
"There's a long road ahead," Araghchi acknowledged, emphasizing the complexity of the trust-building process.
In addition to the nuclear talks, Araghchi addressed the recent US-Iran discussions in Muscat, Oman, facilitated by Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi. These talks marked a departure from the traditional shuttle-diplomacy approach, with al-Busaidi describing them as "very serious" and aimed at identifying areas for progress.
Oman's Foreign Ministry stated that the consultations focused on creating the right conditions for resuming diplomatic and technical negotiations, with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable security and stability.
And this is where it gets even more intriguing: Araghchi claimed that despite the attacks during last year's 12-day war, Iran's nuclear capabilities remained intact.
