A police standards inquiry has been launched after a video surfaced online showing an officer allegedly using force during a detainee’s arrest in Small Heath.
The incident occurred on Hangleton Drive on Thursday, December 4.
West Midlands Police have received several complaints alleging excessive force and have referred the matter to the police standards department for assessment, in line with normal procedures.
In the circulating clip, a handcuffed man is dragged to the ground by an officer, who then stands over him and communicates with his radio. A moment later, the same officer appears to guide the detainee to his feet and toward a marked police vehicle. The detainee is then pushed toward the car’s side, colliding with it before collapsing onto the roadside.
West Midlands Police confirmed awareness of the video circulating on social media and stated that the incident has been referred to the standards department for assessment.
